Today I saw something on a post that I have seen many times. In the thread
about Granadillo, a post stated it has "very similar characteristics to Brazilian
rosewood"

It is kind of funny but everytime someone tries to describe a tonewood they
say it "sounds a bit like brazillian"

Is there a wood that doesn't sound a bit like brazillian

HEEE HEEE

Andy, I can absolutely, 100% guarantee that this plywood guitar I once played sounded nothing like brazilian!

I have some mahogany, and Taz Blackwood, and Koa, and bunches of other stuff that sound nothing like Brazilian.

And I have some wood that sounds exactly like brazilian...

Well actually if it doesn't sound like Brazilian it sounds like mahogany.

BRW must be the "chicken" of woods...

(Tastes like chicken.)

I wonder what Brazilian chickens taste like...

I think some woods sound like Brazilian. Most notably to me are cocobolo, some sets of madrose, and grenadillo.

I think there are several woods with that hard glassy "ping" when you tap it. Ervin Somogyi told us the he thinks the same of Wenge.

Clearly there are substitutes for BRW if you want them.

There is a growing camp of builders that believe that Honduran RW sounds better than Brazilian RW.

As I've said here (many times!) If it was $2000 a set everyone would want it.

My wife once made a guitar shaped pie from a Brazilian chicken, nothing to crow about though, the attack was poor, the neck was too thin and the finish was very scratchy.

Cheers

Yes lovely stuff, I've got some of Brad's Cuban sitting on the shelf (with lots of it's friends!) Try some with Redwood.

This may be something for a that needs it's own topic... but if we're talkin'
flavor... on a scale of 1 to 100--- "Smell Factor"

Honduran Rosewood - 100
Brazilian Ebony (partrige wood) - 0

long

Why thank ya...smells great too, just like Brazilian! Ain't that a funny coincidence?!!!

Those two sets are eventually going to become a OO and a OOO for my personal use. There's one more which will become an OM, also for me to keep. Since I'm retired from building professionally <cough>, now I can focus on doing stuff for me that I've always dreamed about.

Hey Bob Long, I don't think I've ever said "Hi, and welcome to the OLF..."

We should start a thread about which woods we like the smell of the most. Heck, I'm gonna do that!
